Development at EU and International Level

The European Commission plays an active role in combatting match fixing, as part of wider efforts to ensure that competitive sports are fair and their reputation is not compromised.

In the third EU Work Plan for Sport 2017-2020, the general aim of integrity of sport will focus on good governance, safeguarding minors, fighting matchfixing, doping & corruption.

At international level, cooperation in the fight against manipulation of sports competitions has resulted in the Macolin Convention. This convention is the first legally binding international tool to fight match-fixing for the states that choose to ratify it.
